Dear Neighbor,

We will not be posting a Parcel Tax sign in our yard, and we wanted to tell you why:  To put it simply, nobody is handing out free "NO on G" signs.

We know that most teachers are supporting Measure G.  PTAs and other school support organizations are spending tens of thousands of dollars to campaign for a parcel tax, because they are convinced it's the only way to save our schools from the impending financial crisis.

We support our schools and our teachers fully, but we are not convinced PUSD needs a parcel tax at this time.  We believe that additions to the community's already heavy tax burden should only be considered after every other option has been exhausted, and we don't believe this is the case.

The district wants a parcel tax as a stable funding source.  But it's a bad time to ask the community to add another tax to our already heavy tax burden.  Many neighbors have already taken pay cuts, and others, including teachers, are on the verge of losing their jobs.  Even those lucky enough to have steady incomes are focusing on needs rather than wants at this time.

We encourage you to investigate the facts for yourself.  A good place to start is at www.PleasantonParcelTaxInfo.com.  You may not change your mind about the tax, but you will learn a lot about the questions being raised about the district's finances!

Sincerely,

Concerned Citizen
